Deciding whether or not to close buildings
Winter is here -- and that means there may be times when District 63 schools close due to weather-related conditions or other emergency situations.
This year, that doesn't mean learning will stop! When our buildings close, "school" will simply pivot to remote learning for that day. Because students are already equipped with District Chromebooks, making the temporary shift to remote learning should be fairly seamless.
One benefit: there will be no need to extend the school year further into summer to make up for lost days.
Deciding whether or not to close buildings
When weather might result in a closure, District 63 works with other area districts to make a final decision. Student and staff safety is always our first priority, and superintendents also consider other factors in choosing whether or not to keep buildings open.
Notifying families
If area districts -- including District 63 -- do decide to close buildings, the information is disseminated through multiple channels, including:
- The District's Blackboard automatic call/email system.
- This website.
- Our Facebook and Twitter social media pages.
- WGN's Emergency Closings website.
