• Hello, this is Vernon Lawson.  I began my teaching career in 1995 after graduating from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.  While teaching High School in the St. Louis area I accepted a position as a Graduate Assistant and continued to teach while working on my Masters.  I obtained a Master of Music in Performance from SIUE.  I then moved to the New York City area and pursued a career in performance.  I was fortunate enough to work on multiple Broadway shows and perform with Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Lou Rawls, The Moody Blues, and Ray Charles among others.  I obtained a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Roosevelt University in 2012.

I live in the northern suburbs with my wife, two teenage daughters, and three dogs.  I enjoy spending time in the outdoors and helping others.

I am excited to work with the students of D63.  They are eager to learn and I am grateful for the opportunity to help them explore their creative potential.  In addition to my time at Gemini I teach beginning band before school and serve as the Fine Arts Coordinator for the District.

    Musically,

    Vernon Lawson
