A Message from the Principal

    Dear Nelson families:

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! It promises to be an exciting one. I’m thrilled to have been selected to be your principal, and I look forward to meeting and working with you this school year.

As you walk our halls and visit our classrooms, you will discover a school that is both culturally and linguistically diverse. With over 40 languages spoken at Nelson, we truly celebrate that diversity!  Nelson’s team of educators is fully committed to success without boundaries for each and every student. In addition to a challenging academic curriculum, our students experience social-emotional learning and positive behavior supports.

Additionally, our students benefit from an active PTO that sponsors family events and also donates funds for classroom and school needs. We enjoy community partnerships with local libraries and other organizations such as Niles Family Services, which offers supports to students at Nelson both within and outside the school.

We know our students benefit from strong family-school partnerships; we can’t do it without you!  I encourage you to be involved in the many activities here, or maybe even to propose new ones.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have questions or concerns. I look forward to a fantastic school year, and to the many memories to be shared along the way!

    In partnership,

    Lauren Leitao
