Welcome to the Library
Welcome to the Washington School Library Media Center!
Every class visits the LMC weekly to check out books and learn information and technology literacy skills. Classes are coordinated with grade level curriculum. Students may also access the library before school from 8:50-9:05, and during the day with permission from their teacher. Library staff is available from 8:30-11:55.
Students in kindergarten may check out one book per week. Students in grades 1-2 may check out two books per week. Students in grades 3-6 may be able to check out more than two books a week, depending on their needs and responsibility level. Overdue slips will be sent out in December and May, and on an as-needed basis during the rest of the year. There are no overdue fees at the Washington LMC. If a book is lost or severely damaged, please contact Ms. Crowley to arrange payment or an alternative.
You can contact Amanda Crowley, the library media specialist, at firstname.lastname@example.org, or by phone at 847-965-6340. Our library assistant is Kasia Gold.
Illinois Book Awards
Here at Washington, students have the opportunity to vote for their favorite book in three statewide awards.
- Students in grades K-2 will read a selection of nominees for the Monarch Award in class, and vote as a group in December.
- Students in grades 3-5 can read from the Bluestem list, and students in grades 4-6 can read from the Caudill list. For the Bluestem and Caudill, students must read at least 3 books to be able to vote in the spring.
Award nominees are available in the LMC or at your local public library.
