• Please let me take this opportunity to introduce myself and to welcome you Grade 5.  I have been teaching at Mark Twain since 1990.  In the course of my 28 years here, I have taught second, fourth, fifth, and sixth grade.  In addition to being a classroom teacher.   I also served the school as the building specialist for three years.
5th grade will be filled with a variety of experiences both academic and social.  Expect these experiences to be fun, challenging, exciting and sometimes stressful as your child learns to adapt to our class.  Please remember, that as your child advances from fourth to fifth grade,  higher expectation will be placed on him or her to become responsible for all academic work and for one's behavior.  For some students the transition will be easier than it is for others.  Some students may need extra assistance from home and at school to help make the transition as smooth as possible.  Together as a team, we can make your child's experience in Grade 5 worthwhile and positive.
I will be communicating with you throughout the year either by telephone, the assignment notebook, parent notices, letters, E-mail, website and progress reports. Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions, comments, or concerns.    The best way to contact me is via E-mail at jschlebecker@emsd63.org.  I can also be reached by phone at 847-296-5341 extension #8662.
