Social Emotional Well-Being
Attending to the Social-Emotional Well-Being of our Students is a top priority.
District and school staff are committed to supporting students' social-emotional wellness and offering resources to ensure our student's well-being is a top priority. Support may include social-emotional learning, building relationships, community-building activities, and increased access to mental health/wellness services. Families and schools will need to work together to check how students are feeling and assess their individual needs to provide the support our students need during these challenging times.
Each D63 school has full-time social workers, psychologists, and nurses on staff to support students and their families.
Local Mental Health Resources
- Niles Family Services, 999 Civic Center Drive, Niles. Call 847.588.8460 and follow prompts indicating this is an emergency/crisis situation to be connected with a crisis worker.
- Maine Township MaineStay Youth & Family Services. MaineStay is offering telehealth services exclusively and continues to provide affordable counseling and psychiatric services via video or phone sessions. Call 847-297-2510 x258 to get started. All fees for counseling services have been temporarily waived due to the financial hardship COVID-19 is causing for so many families.
- Call4Calm: Illinois Department of Human Services' free and anonymous support line. To speak to a mental health professional, text the word “TALK” or “HABLAR” (for Spanish speakers) to 552020. Within 24 hours, you'll receive a call from a mental health professional employed by a local community health center. People can also text other terms, like “unemployment” or “food” or “shelter” to the same number to receive information on how to navigate and access support and services.
- National Suicide Prevention Hotline: The Lifeline provides 24/7 free and confidential support for people in distress, and prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones. Call 800.273.8255.
