Plan / Design Concepts

East Maine School District 63 serves students across seven main sites, from our Early Learning Center to Gemini Middle School. The District’s schools range in age from 6 to 70 years old, with the average age being 59.  Five of the eight buildings are at least 64 years old, leading to infrastructure needs. These schools are the heart of our community, but as we look at them today, we have to recognize that educational needs have changed significantly since they were first built. And, while Gemini was recently updated, our elementary schools face a growing gap in facility quality and parity.

To address these issues, we began by reviewing the findings of the district’s facility assessment, health & life safety survey, and educational alignment study, which provided a comprehensive list of needs, including worn and deteriorated finishes, lack of natural light, and poor acoustical separation
