Loreen Stone is beginning her 15th year as Mark Twain Elementary School's Librarian. She has served schools as a Librarian 18 years, and has some 10 years experience as a classroom teacher besides. After completing her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education at Northern Illinois University, Mrs. Stone went on to earn her Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction (with an Educational Technology emphasis), and later completed a Library Information Specialist endorsement.
Mrs. Stone manages our school's resource collections, and also oversees the Library's computer lab. All of our students have a regularly scheduled session each week in the Library. Besides guiding young readers to books that match their interests and reading level, Mrs. Stone teaches children basic computer and internet lessons, covering such topics as how to create a bibliography of resources used in assignments, how to judge a website's validity and reliability, and how to interact safely with social media. Keyboarding skills, beginning with First Grade, are a priority.
