D63 has a mask-optional environment in its buildings and on buses for students and staff.
Our goal, as it has always been, is to keep students and staff safe and to keep our buildings open this year. We continue to follow guidance from IDPH and the Centers for Disease Control, to ensure that we achieve that goal.
It is important to note that the District reserves the right to re-institute mandatory mask wearing if local COVID-19 infection rates warrant it or if masking is required by law.
Parents, we ask that you speak with your children about your family's choice regarding wearing a mask at school - and about respecting the choices of others. Mistreatment of anyone based on masking choices will not be tolerated.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you make sure my child remains masked/unmasked throughout the school day? May I request special seating for my child in light of this change?
District 63 staff members cannot be responsible for monitoring your family’s mask choice throughout the day. We will also not be able to honor any special requests for seating preferences within the classroom or throughout the school.
What if my child is returning to school after having had COVID-19?
Exclusion for a symptomatic COVID case ends after five days if fever-free for 24 hours and symptom have improved. Students returning to the classroom after five days should wear a mask for days 6-10.
Is there anywhere masks are still required?
Yes. Universal masking is still required in our school health offices.
Do I need a mask to visit the school?
No. But masks continue to be strongly recommended.
