Hello, My name is Ms. Fecko and I am thrilled to be joining the staff at Gemini as one of the music teachers!
I grew up in Arlington Heights, Illinois. My family instilled in me a love of both music and learning. I received a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Loyola University Chicago in 2017. While in college, I sang with The Silhouettes, Loyola’s all-female a cappella group. After graduating from Loyola, I spent an incredible year in County Wexford, Ireland, teaching and providing music for a Catholic Parish. A desire to teach music brought me back to Chicago in 2018 and I began pursuing my Master’s in Music Education at Northwestern University.
During my time at Northwestern, I was fortunate to gain extensive practical experience teaching music with many grade levels. I completed my student teaching in Evanston/Skokie District 65 (K-5 General Music) and at Lincoln Park High School (9-12 Choir, Piano & IB Music). I worked as a Guest Teaching Artist with Midwest Young Artists Conservatory for their summer Chicago Vocal Boot Camp. I also worked as the Lead Teacher for AMPED (Arts and Music Programs for Education in Detention Centers), leading weekly GarageBand lessons at the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center. Through that experience, I was reaffirmed in my belief that music has the power to bring people together from all walks of life. I graduated from Northwestern in June of 2020.
As a teacher, collaboration and creativity are at the core of my educational philosophy and feature prominently in my music curriculum. I strive to build a classroom environment that is welcoming to all students, encouraging them to discover a personal connection to music and develop musical independence. I am beyond excited to be starting my first year at Gemini, teaching 7th grade General Music. I can tell I am stepping into a community of dedicated, creative students as well as supportive parents and staff.
I believe parent-teacher communication is key to the success of students. If you would like to set up a meeting (or just say hi), please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I look forward to meeting you all and getting to know you this year.
