• Meet the Teacher

    About Me:

My name is Mrs Petrella and I've been with distict 63 since 2017. Previously, I taught for 3 years at Nelson Elementary in both the primary and intermiediate grades.  When I'm not teaching or attending graduate school I enjoy keeping busy with just about anything! My husband and I moved to Chicago so that we would never run out of fun things to do like walking to Wrigley for night games, trying new restaurants, and spending time by the lake. On weekends we also enjoy traveling back to Wisconsin for Marquette Basketball and Green Bay Packers games.

I earned Bachelors' degrees in Elementary and Middle School Education and in Sociology from Marquette University in the spring of 2017. This past summer, I completed the English as a Second Language endorsement and am continuing to pursue my Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction at National Louis University in Chicago.

    Why Social Studies?

After three years at Nelson Elementary, I am thrilled to be joining the Gemini Social Studies department. Teaching Social Studies has become a great passion of mine. I have found that studying the past while drawing connections to the present challenges all of us to reflect on our own understandings of our country's societal function.  Uncovering how a single event in history can be interpreted in more ways than one when considering and evaluating perspectives different from your own is always so rewarding.
