1 to 1 @ Gemini: General Information

Beginning with the 2016-2017 school year, East Maine School District 63 will be implementing a 1 to 1 teaching and learning environment using Chromebooks. All students actively enrolled at Gemini Junior High will be issued a District-owned Chromebook to use. In order to eliminate issues related to various types of Chromebooks the District is issuing a standardized device to all students. While the District has resisted implementing a technology fee in the past it was determined that it was needed for the 1 to 1 deployment. During the 2016-2017 school year the District will reevaluate allowing students to bring their own Chromebooks.

Students are responsible for the care and maintenance of their devices and will get service and support through the school support staff. It is a requirement that students bring their device to school each day with a fully charged battery. If a student damages their Chromebook, the student will be responsible for the cost to repair the device, but a loaner will be issued to the student while their assigned Chromebook is being repaired.

Please see the District Chromebook Use Agreement for detailed information. A signed agreement by parent and student is required prior to the student being issued their Chromebook. The agreement will be provided online for parents. Students will sign the agreement when they pick up their Chromebook.

Chromebook Insurance (Optional but Highly Encouraged)

The District will repair or replace damaged equipment resulting from normal use. All other breakages will be the responsibility of the student to pay for. The full replacement cost of the Chromebook issued to Gemini students is $206. The District will make its best attempt to purchase replacement parts at the best possible price. Loss or theft of the device is also the student’s responsibility and will result in the student being charged the full replacement cost to purchase a new device.

Chromebook insurance through WorthGroup is available for families to purchase for $20. 
Parents can purchase insurance at the time they enroll their student.
