Principal's Message

eagle.jpgOn behalf of the students and staff, I welcome you to V.H. Nelson School.  Nelson is located on the border between Niles and Morton Grove in the northwestern suburbs of Chicago.  Our roughly 600 students in grades K-6 bring an array of diverse cultures to our classrooms each day.  Nelson School provides a variety of services to meet the broad range of our students' talents and needs.

New for the 2012-13 school year are interactive whiteboards in all of our general education, bilingual, ELL and special education instructional classrooms.  I do not know who will be more excited to take full advantage of our newest technology-the students or the teachers!  A huge thank you to our PTO for helping to purchase two of the boards this past year.

We are so fortunate to have an active and supportive PTO.  Please join us on the first Tuesday of each month in the Nelson Learning Center at 6:30 p.m..  The PTO not only provides fun activities and events for the Nelson community, but they also purchase many items that enrich our students' educational experiences.

Nelson School prides itself on meeting the individual needs of each and every student. Our staff participates in hundreds of hours of continuing professional development to keep up with current best practice.

This year we welcome Dr. Timothy Grivois-Shah as our new assistant principal.  Dr. Grivois-Shah was most recently a teacher in Evanston School District 65 and brings to Nelson a sincere appreciation for student diversity coupled with a thorough knowledge of instructional practice and leadership skills.  He will be a wonderful addition to Nelson.

As always, please do  not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Dr. Jean LeBlanc
