Principal's Welcome

Dear Melzer Families,

On behalf of the faculty and staff, I would like to welcome you to the internet home of the Melzer Elementary School.  Our school is located in the Mortonaire section of Morton Grove, which is an outstanding community and has been named by Family Circle magazine as one of the Top Ten Best Towns for Families.

You will not find a school that is more special than Melzer!  It is one of a handful of schools in Illinois that embraces and employs a multiage model of education, has a comprehensive preschool program, and abounds in diversity.  While our students come to us from across the globe, we come together at Melzer School to create a culture of opportunity, success, and learning.

With our very involved Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and family-oriented atmosphere, our students are afforded a wide range of learning experiences.  In addition to our rich, rigorous core curriculum in science, math, social studies, and language arts, our students have the opportunity to also take part in a comprehensive fine arts program, which includes band and orchestra. We also offer many extracurricular activities including Chess Club and Melzer Night Lights.

While Melzer students continue to perform at very high levels academically, our faculty and staff are committed to providing a holistic approach to educating children that fosters academic, social, and emotional growth.  Our faculty and staff also focus on character building and positive decision making as they encourage our students to employ the "Melzer Musts" of being peaceful, responsible, and respectful.

It is both an honor and privilege to serve as the principal of such a wonderful school.  As we move through the year, I look forward to getting to know each and every child and family to ensure that together we build on the many successes of the past to provide a future where all students are empowered to succeed and realize their dreams.   Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at sschleizer@emsd63.org or by phone at (847) 965-7474.

Warmest regards,

Shawn Schleizer, Ed.D.
