Posted on Sunday, May 6, 2012 Book Swap

During the month of May, Apollo students and staff will be able to participate in a Book Swap.  Students and stagg will be able to bring in books that they are no longer reading in order to exchange the book for a new one.  Books should be gently used.  More information will be coming soon!

I am excited for this opportunity for our students, and have already looked for books to donate for the swap.  What book have you been wanting to read, but haven't had an opportunity that you would you like to see at the Book Swap?

Posted on Saturday, October 22, 2011 Parent Involvement

As a child, I remember my mother coming to school and helping in my classroom.  She chaperoned field trips and helped during class events.  Parents would come to school and read to our class and help set up materials for different projects and activities.

Our staff would like to involve parents in the day to day events and learning happening at Apollo School.  What type of events/activities would you be interested in attending or helping with at Apollo School?

Posted on Thursday, March 31, 2011 5th and 6th Grade Parent Education Night

Our 5th and 6th grade parents were invited to a Parent Education Night on March 16th.  This event allowed parents to have an opportunity to see projects their child created.  Parents were also given useful websites that could be used to help their child choose a good book, give help with homework, and help them research topics.

It was also shared with parents that it is important for them to talk with their child about the books they are reading.  Parents were given bookmarks that had possible questions to ask their children and those in attendance practiced with their child.  This was my favorite parent of the night! It was fun to hear the discussions about the students' independent books.  The discussions reminded me of when I used to tell my parents and sisters about the books I was reading and why I loved them!

Please share:  Who do you like to tell about the books that you are reading?  What books would you recommend to others?  What would you tell others about the book you are reading?  How often do you talk about reading with the adults/student in your life?
