After a week of clues and mystery, D63 revealed its One District - One Author pick on September 26: award-winning writer Andrew Clements Author of dozens of books beloved by young readers everywhere, Clements has penned works ranging from the 2.5 million bestseller Frindle to No Talking and Things Not Seen: the two books our D63 community will be reading this fall.

It’s boys versus girls in No Talking – our elementary school book – as the “unshushable” 5th graders compete to see which team can say the fewest words a day.  At Gemini, Things Not Seen will keep students on the edge of their seats as Bobby Phillips races against time to figure out why he woke up one morning . . . invisible.

Throughout the month, families will read the books together at home – and can visit our One District - One Author website for discussion questions, a reading schedule, and even a letter from Clements himself! Students can also view video recordings of both books – each chapter read by a “D63 star” and even a few local celebrities.

So let’s get reading! And mark your calendar as we wrap up this exciting program with a visit from Clements himself on Wednesday, October 26. Open only to D63 families, this special evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Gemini Junior High.

  • A Special Guest at the Nelson Picnic!

    Mayor at Nelson Picnic

Nelson celebrated the arrival of fall on a beautiful evening with a jam-packed picnic. Hundreds of students and their families gathered in the playground and school fields on September 1 for Olympic-themed games (including "shotput" featuring weighted lunch bags), kid-friendly activities, awesome refreshments ranging from hot dogs to Culver's custard, lively music, and a chance to meet and learn from the Niles Police Department.  Joining the fun was Niles Mayor Andrew Przybylo, who stopped by to throw a "javelin" or two with some of his younger constituents.
